The Journey of AFT® E-Fibre: From Tyres to Floors
Our groundbreaking use of AFT® E-Fibre 15/40 represents a significant leap in sustainable construction technology. Here's how we turn old tyres into robust construction materials:
- Collection and Processing: End-of-life tyres are collected and processed to extract steel cords. These cords, typically sent to overseas melt ovens, are given a new purpose.
- Transformation into AFT® E-Fibre: The extracted steel cords are cut, cleaned, filtered and quality checked becoming the AFT® E-Fibre. This ultra-high tensile steel wire fibre retains the strength and durability of traditional steel, making it an ideal reinforcement material for concrete floors.
- Incorporation into Concrete Floor Slabs: The AFT® E-Fibre is integrated into our concrete floor slabs. (ECO Freeplan®) This innovative material provides reinforcement that reduces the need for manufactured steel reinforcement materials and contributes to the overall reduction in embodied carbon of the construction project.
